Marty Johnson's Portfolio

Born and raised in New York City, my art is inspired by light, movement, and sound. Transforming and bringing these elements through in my art is both challenging and exciting.

I’m a mixed media artist, and work with a variety of unconventional materials. My creative process is intuitive…I don’t usually draw or plan out a painting but allow myself to see where the painting takes me. I found and fell in love with cattle markers, an oil based marker , used by cattle farmers to mark their cattle. The markers allow me to use a technique I refer to as “smudging”, this technique allows me to render my paintings (most are landscapes) with an ethereal effect.

Having recently moved to East Palatka and living on the St. Johns River, I have the most amazing views to draw from. The river is truly generous, gracing us with beautiful reflections on the water and stunning sunrises and sunsets.

To quote the artist Robert Henri; ”The object isn’t to make art, it’s to be in that wonderful state that makes art inevitable.”

Gathering Artists Of Putnam

Hello Art Lovers,

As you might have noticed, Gathering Artists of Putnam is no longer residing at 712 St. Johns Ave. The building is undergoing additional renovations by Saylor's, to enhance their vibrant business!

That does not mean GAP is gone! As we continue to create Art and search for a more permanent home, we still have art available for viewing and purchasing! We have a series of featured artists exhibitions planned for The St. Johns River Center, 102 N.1st St Palatka, starting with Alain Hentschel's NEW WORK, opening reception on Friday, October 10. More collaborations could happen as well, so follow our Facebook Page to stay in the loop.

We are excited as we plan for our future home at the Larimer Arts Center coming soon. Stay tuned!
